SITTING FOR TOO LONG? YOU MAY BE INVITING PAIN!!!

sitting for long

There is a popular saying, “sitting is next to smoking“. It is because when you sit for a long time, your body becomes inactive and thereby increasing the risk of back pain, heart disease, diabetes, depression, and even cancer. People who work in computers, desk jobs and those who study for long hours are bound to face serious health issues sooner or later. It is a time-bomb ticking in your lap, waiting to explode at any moment.

Here are some commonly-faced problems and their solutions,

LOWER BACK PAIN:

Lower back pain is one of such problems. Whether it’s an occasional or an ongoing ache, back pain can keep you away from performing your best. It may be caused by sitting continuously for long hours at a time. Slumping back in your desk chair or slouching forward means your spine is out of alignment. That puts a strain on the ligaments and muscles in your back.

back pain

REMEDIES: The length of your back should reach the back of your chair to help you sit upright. Also make sure that your feet are resting flat on the floor, with your thighs parallel to the ground. Exercising on a regular basis can also help. Abdominal exercises, such as crunches, two to three times a week can strengthen your core.

WRIST STRAIN:

Wrist strain is another common problem. Many of us unconsciously develop a habit of positioning our wrist over the keyboard. So whenever we operate on a keyboard or mouse the tendons in your wrist go back and forth. That repetitive motion cause fatigue and tendons may become inflamed.

REMEDIES: Perform the Buddha stretch. Place your fingers and palms together with your hands in front of your chest, fingers pointing upward. While keeping your palms together and elbows moving out, lower your hands until you feel a good stretch in your wrists. Hold for five minutes. When using the keyboard, hold your wrist naturally so that, they‘re floating horizontally in the air – not perched higher than your hands or your hands resting on the desk. Also, get a wrist rest for your keyboard and mouse.

NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN:

Frequent movement of neck and shoulder while working on computer create neck and shoulder injuries. The ache and pain come from placing the computer in an inappropriate position, i.e. too far away on your desk. It causes you to extend your neck and shoulder forward. As a result, it strains the muscles and soft tissues.

neck pain retraction exercise

REMEDIES: To release a tight neck, try the neck retraction exercises. Standing or sitting upright, keep your spine straight and push your head forward, jutting your chin out as far as possible. Always place the computer in front of you – not angled to the side. Use a chair that has adjustable armrests which allow your elbows to form a 90-degree angle. Good posture is also a long-term solution.

EYE STRAIN:

Staring at your computer for hours at a time can cause eye fatigue. People also tend to blink less often while staring at the computers, which leads to dry eyes and fatigue.

REMEDIES: Every 20 to30 minutes, look at something off in the distance for 20 seconds to give your eyes a break. Your computer monitor should ideally be 20 to 30 inches from you. The top level of the computer monitor should be roughly at eye level.

There are lots of other problems too. But the above-mentioned are four common major issues suffered by many, and their solutions will certainly prove fruitful to everyone.

7 Unknown Facts about the Physics Legend – Stephen Hawking

World-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has died at his home in Cambridge, England early morning on the 14th of March 2018.

He was one of the most brilliant minds of our time. The physicist kept making headlines with his spectacular theories about the universe. Here, we will know many other unknown facts about him.

Stephen Hawking was paralyzed for over 40 years, confined to a wheelchair and still, he was a pioneer of physics and astrophysics. Stephen Hawking fascinated again and again. His contributions to quantum physics and his findings on black holes are spectacular.

Following facts you need to know about the physics genius Stephen Hawking:

#1 – Stephen Hawking Was A TV Star:

Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was not only a brilliant scientist and physicist, he was also a movie and TV star. He was among others in the series “Cosmo and Wanda” and “The Big Bang Theory” to see. In addition, he has made guest appearances at “Futurama” and the Simpsons, where he gave his character a voice with his voice computer.

He has also made an appearance in the science fiction series “Starship Enterprise”. He was the only person in the Star Trek universe to play himself.

#2 – Hawking Had Experienced Weightlessness:

Stephen Hawking

One of the greatest dreams of this physics genius was a journey into space. In 2007, he was able to realize at least a little insight into this desire. Through a parabolic flight, the completely paralyzed physicist experienced a state of weightlessness for a few minutes.

In a parabolic flight, the aircraft climbed to 10,000 meters, followed by a dive to about 2600 meters. Hawking experienced this maneuver a total of eight times.

#3 – Stephen Hawking Was a Children’s Book Author:

Stephen Hawking

The physicist has not only written highly-complex scientific works but he also has written some children’s books. Together with his daughter, Catherine Lucy Hawking, he brought out three children’s books.

However, he remained true to his specialty – The books revolve around the phenomena of the solar system and the universe. The first book is called “The Secret Key to the Universe” and the other two are its sequels.

#4 – The Name “Hawking” As a Trademark:

Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking wanted to patent his name as a trademark. According to “The Independent”, he has already submitted an application to the British Patent Office.

Hawking had already advertised various companies and products in the past, including wheelchairs. By patenting his name as a trademark, he wants to prevent his name being misused for inappropriate products.

#5 – Hawking’s Diseases:

Stephen Hawking

The physicist was suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The first signs of the disease showed up during his studies. In 1963, he was told, he had only two years to live. He could no longer write his doctoral thesis himself because his hand showed signs of paralysis. Hawking has been in a wheelchair since 1968. In 1985, after a tracheotomy, the physicist, lost the ability to speak.

#6 – Infrared Sensor and Robot Voice: Hawking’s Voice Computer:

Stephen Hawking

While Stephen Hawking was not able to speak since 1985, he was using a voice computer. This has evolved over the years. At first, with a button in his hand, he chose from a list of terms he saw on a screen. The selected terms were then sent to a speech generator.

When his fingers became too weak for a keystroke, an infrared transmitter was integrated into his glasses. This was connected to the voice computer. The sensor measures the movements in Hawking’s right cheek muscle and one eye. Hawking makes a selection of letters, words, and phrases stored in his computer with each movement.

The developers offered the physicist to give his voice computer a new voice that would come close to his original voice. Hawking, however, retained his old voice.

#7 – Gloomy Thoughts About The Future:

Stephen Hawking

Hawking was not exactly optimistic about the future of humanity. He believed there is a constant risk that life on Earth will be completely wiped out by disasters such as a sudden global warming, a nuclear war, a genetically-modified virus or other dangers and therefore, the need for colonizing the space and other planets, thereby, preventing the extinction of mankind. In addition, Hawking warned of Artificial Intelligence. He feared that computer intelligence might not be controllable within next 100 years.

THE TWINS STUDY: A NASA EXPERIMENT – Space can change Human DNA?

NASA twin study

Space travel – though it sounds like a fascinating word for almost everybody, it’s more than an impossible task for a common person. There is a limitless curiosity among us regarding space and its existence. NASA and other different space research centers of other countries and their space scientists have been continuously doing the experiment on this. Many of them even lost their lives, during their research.  As a part of such experiments, Astronaut, Scott Kelly spent a year in space and has returned to the earth recently. And most surprisingly, with a different DNA structure, non-identical to his identical twin brother.

Scott Kelly is an American astronaut of 65 years old and a retired space scientist of NASA. He is a veteran space traveler, who traveled four times to space. He stayed for a total of 520 days in space in his career from December 1999 to March 2016.

The Space Experiment:

This time, NASA did an experiment with Scott and his twin brother Mark Kelly, who is also a retired Astronaut of NASA. Mark is an identical twin with his brother and has the same DNA. NASA has done this experiment by using Mark and Scott as subjects of study. Through this study, they wanted to find out, how long-term space travel can affect the human body or what exactly happens?

NASA twin study experiment

This was the final mission of Scott. And the result of the experiment has turned out to be just unbelievable. As it proved that space really brings changes upon us. When Scott returned from space, it was discovered that his DNA has significantly changed. About 93% of Scott’s genes have changed back after landing on earth, and around 7% of his genes have shown a long-lasting or permanent change. This includes his immune system, DNA repair, bone formation network etc.

Ten different research teams presented their preliminary findings last year at NASA’s Human Research Programme 2017 Investigators Workshop (IWS). The recent 2018 IWS has confirmed these findings. NASA explains,”while this finding was in 2017, the team verified this unexpected change in multiple assays and genomics testing. Additionally, new telomere (a compound structure at the end of a chromosome) shortened within two days of Scott’s return to Earth.” NASA said, ’’Scott’s telomeres actually became larger in space.”

The Result:

NASA has some hidden strategies besides the study of Scott’s DNA study. NASA, as well as Elon Musk’s Space Mission, is looking at the possibility of astronauts traveling to Mars. Scott’s stint for one year in space so far simplifies NASA’s plan for long-duration space travel.

NASA says,”Scott Kelly’s one year stint in space is a stepping stone to the three-year mission.” At present, astronauts only spend six months in the International Space Station as standard.”  A journey to Mars take at least three years, the longest time a person will ever be in space.

So, the change in DNA opened a new route for the scientists to think alternatively. After Scott’s study, it is confirmed that our DNA in body radically transforms with unknown effects. Many of us were expecting the first manned Mars trip will happen within 2030. But the human element cannot be overlooked at the same time. Still, we are hopeful. Certainly, scientists will find out some way towards the fulfillment of their mission.

BITCOIN AND CRYPTOCURRENCY SIMPLIFIED

Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency

For a long time, I have been hearing about Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency. Perhaps, for that reason, my curiosity to know about these two terminologies has increased to a greater extent. So, I tried to put my nose on to it just to acquire knowledge as much as I could. After a bit research, I have come up with few things that I think I must share with my readers. The advantage that you are going to get after reading this article is, you will have a basic idea about Bitcoin or Cryptocurrency and how it works.

INTRODUCTION:

First and foremost, Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency are two different words. Cryptocurrency is a cryptographed digital currency. It is encrypted with secret codes just to ensure three things, secured transaction, controlled re-creation and verified transfer of funds. It also has two other names which are, virtual currency or alternative currency, this means, it is not a physical currency. On the other hand, bitcoin is just a type of Cryptocurrency. The concept of Cryptocurrency was first described by Wei Dai in 1998. But the bitcoin was designed and created by an unknown figure, called, Satoshi Nakamoto in the year 2009.

HOW BITCOIN WORKS:

Since bitcoin is a digital currency, its transactions and exchanges are completely digital. Now, you may have a question in mind like, how can someone measure the legitimacy of such transactions? Means, you have a bitcoin, and you want to give it to your friend John. Now, how can John be assured that you haven’t already sent it to your friend Harry as an email attachment earlier or you have already made several copies of your bitcoin and stored it on your computer? Or probably, you had put it up on the internet and thousands of people already downloaded it.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency

To overcome the issue, the creator of bitcoin came up with a solution, which is, Blockchain. It is nothing but a digital ledger. It keeps the records of all transactions that take place digitally. And to root out any discrepancies or probable anomalies and frauds, this digital ledger is not specifically placed in a certain place in a certain computer. Rather, each and everyone present in that Blockchain, manage and maintain that ledger under open distributed ledger system. Anyone can participate in that network. Moreover, one has to be within the system, to be a part of the system or that network. And, by participating and contributing towards the updating and maintaining of the digital ledger or the Blockchain one can receive bitcoin as a reward. In fact, it is the only way to create more bitcoins in the system, which they call it, Mining.

CONCLUSION:

Bitcoin carries a high value, and its value increases day by day. The reason is, less in supply and high in demand. Moreover, there is another reason for its popularity, that is, the identities of the transacting parties always remain hidden. Still, there are debates going on between various groups whether it is useful or not. But with the way the technology is advancing, maybe one day, the whole world will accept bitcoin as a Global Currency. Till then, just wait and watch.

Travel Tips For The First Trip To Leh in Ladakh (Jammu & Kashmir)

Ladakh is a paradise on earth and Leh is the entrance to heaven. If you have never been to Leh but are considering a trip to the land of blue lakes and mighty gray mountains, here are some important information and tips for getting started.

Arrival to Leh:

Leh

You can fly to Leh from all major cities in India, not directly but via Delhi or Mumbai. Leh is situated at 3,500 meters above sea level. You can also drive to Leh, via two routes:

# From Srinagar (415 km away):

From Srinagar, Leh route is only open from the first week of April or May to November or December. The road is in good condition, the slope moderates towards Leh so that the probability of altitude sickness is much lower than in a flight. And there are some nice villages along the way. This path is perfect for the elderly and children.

# From Manali (482 km away):

This route is usually open to traffic in the first week of May or June to October or November. This route is very steep, the road is also not very good and there is a risk of landslides. If you are looking for a true adventure, you can try this route.

Activities in Ladakh:

  • Art & History:

Leh

Visit the old town of Leh. The Ladakh Arts and Media Organization exhibit local artworks in the Old City. There are also workshops on topics, such as textiles, design and creative writing.

  • Volunteering:

Leh

If you want to stay longer in Ladakh, you can work as a volunteer. They work for the 17,000 ft Foundation which offers a variety of programs for 10, 16 or 30 days in schools in Leh and the surrounding villages.

  • Adventure:

Leh

Join the Ladakh Marathon either as a spectator or as a participant. But attention: Participants must be extremely fit because of the thin air at this altitude. For hikers, there are hiking trails available. A good source of information is Ladakh Ecological Footprint.

Whitewater rafting expeditions is another great thing to do for both beginners and advanced hikers. Frozen Himalayas has bike tours to and from Leh, as well as hikes in the footsteps of snow leopards in winter in the program.

  • Multi-Day Trips:

Leh

For other exciting trips, you can book a taxi and they take you to the Nubra Valley, lakes Pangong, and Tso Moriri. You can also visit these natural attractions within a day’s trip but there are very comfortable camps everywhere and breathtaking views. The sunset right on Pangong Lake should not be missed.

  • Shopping:

Leh

The market in Leh offers Tibetan antiques, jewelry, and curious. Also, handmade rugs and Pashmina shawls are offered. The Ladakh Apricot store in Zangsti serves organic food and apricot jam made from local fruits.

List For The Backpack:

Leh

Apart from warm jackets and jumpers, the following things are needed to get through a trip to Leh:

  • Waterproof hiking boots.
  • Rainproof clothing.
  • Sunglasses, hat or cap with an umbrella, sunscreen, (the sunburn hazard is immensely high).
  • Backpack for everything you need on short hikes around Leh.
  • Medicine for all cases (consult an experienced doctor).

Do Not Underestimate Altitude Sickness:

The symptoms of altitude sickness are a headache, breathlessness, and nausea. One should not take these symptoms lightly. The altitude sickness can hit anyone, even to trained athletes. It is really dangerous and can even be deadly. So if you do not feel good about your health, do not go hiking any further but stop and get off immediately to the next lowest point you can reach. Let yourself be advised by a qualified doctor before your trip to Leh and Ladakh. When you get used to the altitude slowly, your body usually makes the transition by itself.

Some Other Important Hints:

  • Plastic bags are prohibited in Ladakh, so you can only take biodegradable or paper bags.
  • The weather is unpredictable. Mostly, it is windy and the temperature can quickly drop from very pleasant to quite cool. So it is good if you can take something over or something undressed.
  • Wear waterproof backpacks and suitcases to make sure your clothes stay dry when it rains or when you need to drive through a river.
  • Be sure to bring lots of fresh batteries or charged batteries with you for your camera. They also drain themselves faster in the cold than usual.
  • In the dry air, you need more liquid about 4 to 5 liters per day, so always keep a water bottle with you. It is the best if you will not drink alcohol.
  • If you will drive yourself, never forget that driving at this altitude and on this terrain is a completely different challenge.

In general, Leh and Ladakh is a wonderful place, despite all the warnings mentioned above. The landscape, the culture, the people are indescribable. You have to see it with your own eyes, listen to your ears, and experience all your senses.

And most importantly, do not try to finish everything in short span of time. Leh and Ladakh are not a place to be seen in a hurry.

The last few days have shown the ugliest rift in his marital cord with his indecent text messages with multiple women being uploaded to social media. So, what’s the whole case about? Let’s dig deeper into this controversy.

Shami's

What’s the controversy?

Hasin Jahan, the wife of the cricketer, has accused him of torturing her and even having extra-marital affairs. She even said that Shami had threatened her with dire consequences if she tries to expose him publicly. All these allegations have been made on the Facebook post by an unverified account. It was titled as ‘Shami’s enjoyment’ with several pictures of Shami’s obscene chats with a number of women. Not only this, photos and phone numbers of the women with whom he has been involved were also uploaded. However, the account was deleted later.

Shami's

Allegations made by Shami’s wife

Shami’s wife has also accused his family of domestic violence and physically assaulting her on several occasions. The couple who had got married in 2014 also has a 3-year-old daughter. As per Jahan’s accusations, the pacer remained repeatedly involved in extra-marital affairs since their marriage and his family even tried to kill her. She said, “Everyone in their family used to torture me. His mother and brother used to abuse me. The tortures continued till 2-3 a.m. in the morning. They even wanted to kill me.” She further added, “I gave him enough time (to rectify mistakes) and tried to calm myself down but instead of accepting his own mistakes, he used to vent his anger on me and even threaten me, asking to keep mum for my own goodwill.”

What Shami Said in his Defence

However, Shami who is currently playing in Deodhar Trophy for India A has denied all the allegations levied on him and called it a conspiracy to ruin his performance in the upcoming matches.

Shami's

What can be the next step of Shami’s wife?

On the other side, Jahan’s lawyer Zakir Hussain said she was hopeful. She wanted to give chance to Shami to change his manners in order to avoid taking any legal action. “She is giving it some time. So we will wait a bit before taking any legal action,” Hussain informed on the phone.

Impact of Controversy on Shami’s Career

This whole controversy has already impacted the cricketer’s professional front as Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) dropped his name from annual player contracts system. As per the information provided by BCCI sources, “Shami has been dropped from the player contracts system because his wife filed a complaint against him.”It was further added, “Shami has been dropped from the contract due to disciplinary reason and will be included in the contract list if (his) innocence is proved.”

Truth Eagerly Awaited

It is for the first time that the wife of a famous Indian cricketer took the help of social media to make her husband’s apparent misdemeanors public. Apart from this, she has also lodged an official complaint with Kolkata police.

As a high profile case which involves a renowned Indian cricketer, all eyes are set to know the truth behind the whole controversy. Only the time will tell if it’s a conspiracy to malign the cricketer’s image or it’s actually his true face.
